My Ministry

It is the passion of my heart to lead others to know God through worship. I believe that we were created for worship, and that music is an important part of that worship. I believe that music was created by God to encourage us to know Him more. It enables us to center our mind’s attention and our heart’s affection on the Lord. The calling God has placed on my life is to encourage God’s people to worship Him.

Currently, I am serving as an Assistant Professor of Music and Worship Studies at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. In that role, I have hands-on experience helping to train the next generation of worship leaders preparing to serve the church in the next season. There is no more important calling that the one to serve God's people in a full-time ministry. By helping to prepare the called, it is my goal to give them the tools to be effective leaders, passionate worshipers, skilled musicians, and empathetic ministers.

I have also been privileged to serve in the local church in Worship Ministry for more than thirty years. Currently, I serve as Associate Pastor of Music and Worship at First Baptist Church of Sherwood, Arkansas. God has allowed me to experience many diverse church situations from small rural churches, to large metropolitan churches. In those experiences, God has given me a wide background from which to draw and share with the next generation of worship leaders.

My Family

I have been married to my wife, Denise since 1995. Denise is a nurse working as a nursing informatisist for a major insurance carrier. We have been blessed with three children. Our oldest, Garrett, is married to Jaden and they are the proud parents of grand babies, Edmund and Corrinne. They are engineering professors at the University of Wyoming. Tyson, recently married to Natalie, is currently serving as an officer in the Army National Guard and is a graduate student. Our youngest, Kenzie, is a Senior Musical Theater Major at Ouachita.

We are blessed in that all of our children are actively involved in ministry, and are sincere followers of Christ.

My Publishing

I am also currently working through the publication of my first book, Intentional: Getting Past Multigen Worship. The book is in editing and typesetting with Wipf & Stock and should be available on all the outlets soon.

In Intentional, I closely examine the scriptural basis for intergenerational worship. In the worship leading world today, there is currently a big push to be multigenerational. All the music publishers are creating products that have the "Multigen" tag. These products are designed to incorporate children, students, and adults in moments of worship. In Intentional, I contend that these efforts do not go far enough. According to Scripture, God has called us to live our lives together, not just have moments of togetherness.
